A tidy computer desk is a sign of an unsound mind

Everyone comments on the position of my mouse table. When I was on my last job I had a corner desk with a return, and found it to be an extremely comfortable position for using the mouse for extended periods of time. My desk at home is a little higher, so I got around it by putting the mouse surface on drawer slides making it 5 or 6 cms lower, and it just slides away under the desk to give access to the drawers underneath.

You know me too well...  Cool
This desk has one of those return thingy's..to the right of my puta.. never use it though. I would find that position rather hard to get used to...

If it's uncomfortable, the chances are that it's too high. My surface is at elbow height when I'm seated, so my forearm is able to rest on it comfortably. It ain't perfect, but it is better than resting across the sharp edge of the desk with my arm extended forward, this makes my shoulder ache after a very short while.

Yep, I've been very quiet for a few weeks. This was all bought about by my ongoing interest in Genealogy (Family History).

Firstly, as a member of our local history group I was recently asked to make some enquiries on behalf of a Jamestown family who were trying to ascertain as to whether they were related to a man who was the manager of Canowie Station during the 1890s, the second was bought about when as a result of my ongoing research into my own family, I found a previously unknown Cousin once removed, (my cousin's child).

Both of these happenings have been very interesting for me, in the first case the family concerned turned out to have a large number of rather prominent South Australian early settlers in their tree, also I found that the original enquirer is directly related to at least three other families in Jamestown and to one other by marriage. None of whom he was aware of.

In the second case my curiosity as to where my long lost cousin had disappeared to, has been answered and I am now in contact with several previously unknown relatives.

To anyone who has the vaguest interest in their own family history I would suggest that you get start trying to find out some details it can be an enthralling and sometimes time consuming pastime, although with access to the internet and groups like our own Jamestown Local History group it is becoming much easier than it was only a few years ago.

The assistance of the JLHG is not limited to the Jamestown area, although that is our forte, but we also have many records of Births Marriages and Deaths for South Australia and Victoria, not to mention a growing collection of already published family histories mainly relating to local familes.
