There are several ways of doing this, however I find the easiest way is as follows. Yep,... us old fogeys get very set in our ways,... never the less, I think you will find it quite easy if we go one step at a time. It may seem very complicated, but just take it one step at a time. the most long winded part is setting up a Photobucket account. But even this will be handy to have for other reasons.
Firstly, create a
free account at Photobucket. This only ever has to be done once at:
http://photobucket.com/ To do this click on the green "
Join Now" button. You will then be taken to a page containing a box like this.

Next, think of a unique Username, this may take several attempts, as there are literally tens of thousands of members, here you can see that I have used the word "chesh" in reverse because the word means something to me. Be sure to use something that you can remember.
Then choose a password, type it into the box and re type it in the box below to ensure that you have not made a mistake. You will notice that you can not see the letters or numbers that you type in, they are replaced by dots for security reasons. No one can read it over your shoulder.
Click on
Next StepFrom here you will the go to a page to fill out your contact details. Personally I only ever give my Hotmail or Yahoo email address to avoid the possibility of it being harvested by Spammers. Once you have completed this, you will be able to access a page where you can up load your photos to your own Photobucket account. It will only accept photos in JPEG or GIF or similar compressed format.
The page will have a box similar to this.

If yor photos are very large, they will take a long time to upload and also to display when you copy their URL to the Jamestownevents site.
To avoid this there are many free utilities to resize your pictures. (More about this in Software)
Below is an example of a picture uploaded to my Photobucket page. The URL that you copy to display the photo on any website etc., is contained in the box below the picture, which in this case I have outlined in
red In this case it is:
http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/ozzirt/3.jpg
Just what the hell is a URL I hear you ask. Quite simple,... it stands for
Uniform
Resource
Locator, or even more simply it is an address so the computer knows where to find the picture.
Uniform, because it applies in all cases,
Resource being something that you, or the computer uses,
Locator because it tells the computer where to locate the resource. For simplicity's sake always just called a URL. The URL fot this Article being
http://forum.jamestownevents.com/index.php/topic,46.msg258.html#msg258 You can see it in your browsers address line at the top of this page.
To insert the photo into your post on Jamestownevents, click on the "Insert Image" button here once again seen outlined in
red
This will place two sets of the letters URL enclosed in square brackets on your page with the cursor in between them. Paste the URL of your picture e.g.
http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn133/ozzirt/3.jpgbetween the two brackets.
If you then click "Preview" you should see your picture entered into your post.
Yes,... it does seem a little long winded, but it is in fact, quite simple, once you have used it several times.
