Clockwise Above:  Leith Cooper, Clive Palmer, Kevin Mooney (School Principal), Richard Boston, Don Bottrall and Denise Hall (nee Sumner), Out of shot Ken Campbell and Self.

The meeting as advertised above was held tonight, (29th. Sept) and was attended by eight interested persons.

The election of office bearers for the committee was held, with Leith Cooper accepting his nomination for Chairman, Richard Boston has accepted the temporary position of Minutes Secretary until another person who has indicated their desire to help in this regard can be contacted, unfortunately they were unable to attend tonight's meeting due to prior commitments.

Once this was concluded, Leith took the Chair and the business of setting a date was discussed with an agreement being reached for the weekend of the 15th. and 16th. May 2010.

A tentative program has been discussed with ideas being put forward for such things as:
A casual Meet and Greet for early arrivals on the Friday night. This will be exactly as it says, a meeting point for early arrivals where they can get together and be found by others who are seeking old friends and acquaintances. The actual site has not been formalised as yet, but will most probably be at one of the Hotels, as nights may well be too cool for an outside venue in mid May. There will be more information on this as the weekend gets closer.

It was decided that although this is a "weekend" event, that it would be best to focus the main events on the Saturday, for the convenience of those who will only be able to attend for one day, with Sunday being left for less structured entertainment and pastimes.

On Saturday morning there will be a registration and roll call, followed by group photographs. It is anticipated that the photography will start either as the last of the latter years are having their respective Rolls called, or immediately thereafter. The photos will be taken in five year groups and may be broken down further if need be.

After lunch, the time capsule from the 50th Anniversary will be unearthed, any remaining group photos will be taken immediately thereafter. It is hoped that this will be followed by an "Open School" where visitors will be able to have a look at both their old class rooms and also the new school buildings, a number of School Staff will be present in various rooms to guide you and answer questions.

For those who like their football and/or netball, we are trying to arrange that Jamestown will be playing at home, so if you would rather go to the footy with a group of friends, that will be an option. We realise that there will also probably be many who will take this opportunity to go for a look around the town and see all of the changes since you were last here. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

The plan at the moment for the evening, is to have a catered dinner with several guest speakers sourced from some of our more notable past students, light musical entertainment will be provided, but quiet enough so that you may talk and renew old acquaintances, the whole idea being to see and talk to as many as you can and generally enjoy yourself. So start digging up those old stories from your school days.

Sunday has been left largely clear of organised events so that those who wish may attend Church, meet with friends or go for a drive round the town and district. In the afternoon The Jamestown Local History Museum will be open with a wide range of School based displays and local history resources available. Anyone who has any old school photos, please bring them along as we would very much like to scan them for our archives. Members of the History Group will also be present at the High School on the Saturday with a display of class photos taken over the years, at this time, they will also be able to scan any photos you may care to bring along.

This rough itinerary is still in the flexible stage and will no doubt be fine tuned as time goes on, so keep looking here and keep in touch with any others you know who may be interested.

We hope to see you here!

General Business

1.   A program has been devised as of the minutes of 29th September but it is only suggested and is open to amendments.
Suggestions:
•   Time Capsule from the 75th would be opened. This was laid by Ron Mudge and Sue Ann Woidt the youngest child at the school at the time. Same procedure would be suggested for this celebration - chair of the Committee and the youngest secondary child in May 2010.
•   On the Sunday there would be a Local History Group display with both a scanner available and an order system for photo prints.
•   An Art Gallery Exhibition of student work.
•   Julie Kelly suggested a Ball via Leith Cooper. The format could be a presentation ball on the Friday night.
•   Have the formal proceedings on the Saturday to enable people to have the option of attending for one day only.
•   Centenary Book Discussions
•   General discussion about whether it should be the add on to the 75th book or a new book covering the 100 years.
•   Decided that it should tell the story of secondary education in Jamestown  in photographs interspersed with text.
•   Information may come from : Val Brook’s work for the JLHG, photos in the Museum, Mortlock library Internet catalogue of historical photographs, Northern Review, Uni SA list of teachers in schools up to 1940 (someone’s thesis).
•   The information for the 75th book was all taken from the Principal’s High School Journals.
•   Keith and Yvonne Woidt suggested a format for an individual scrapbook on certain individuals being a small spiral bound A5 size booklet.
•   The Gladstone Centenary book had an appendix with all Staff and Student names listed.
Committees Elected and Suggestions Made for Committees
•   Book Committee
John Glistak, Leith Cooper, Clive Palmer with some assistance from Len Jones ( contact person from JLHG), Bev O’Shaunesy (later in the process), Yvonne Woidt (able to give some help).
•   There will be a need for initial funds to begin the process
•   Books would be pre-ordered and paid for
•   Finance Committee
Richard Boston and Don Bottrall to be approached.
•   Suggested that the availability of grants be investigated. Suggested avenues, ANZ Bank, ABB, AGL
•   Someone will need to see local council re grant availability
•   Promotion and Contact Committee
Leon Pollard and Ron Mudge.
•   Pam Wenham may be able to advertise in an information booth in Adelaide.
•   Radio broadcast – could we get someone like Peter Goers or local ABC to broadcast from Jamestown.
•   Souvenirs could be a good fund raiser.
•   Suggestions- tea towels with printed photos, wine bottling, stubby holders
•   Real need to work out appropriate souvenirs that will sell to a range of people.
•   Accommodation
•   Keith Woidt and Valmai George
•   Bookings
•   Discussion re large venue.
•   Ron Mudge to book Table Tennis Centre
•   Len Jones to determine how many that venue could cater for.
•   Need to investigate insurance issues.
Issues to be Investigated  or Thought About Prior to Discussion at next meeting
•   What involvement should there be for the 2009 and 2010 staff and students eg opening up the school and putting up work and photographs.
•   Could Don Smallacombe address a meeting about Gladstone’s experiences with their recent centenary? Leith Cooper to contact Don.
•   Investigate when Football is on and think about the number of people who would have conflicts of interest at various times. Leith to consult with Peter Hunter and NAFA.
•   Investigate appropriate souvenirs
•   Ways to contact people.
•   Grant availability

Proposed date for next meeting Tuesday February 10th at 8pm .
There was some contention re this date because there will be several School Council meetings at this time.

I would be happy to donate hosting and my time to build a website on a dedicated domain to advertise the event. Could the Committee discuss an appropriate domain name e.g. jamestownhighcentenary.com.au (maybe something shorter would be preferable)?

Also am happy to create a logo and graphics for the site. Let me know what ideas the Committee have, or am happy to attend a meeting to discuss as required if my offer is acceptable.

I will seek the committee's permission to make up a "Flyer" (half page)and (a)I would put it up on "Notice Boards" in shopping centres. Specialy when visiting another city/town.
(b)give to friends to put them in their local shopping centre.

The "Flyer" would be a simple explaination and at the bottom, show the website and three names for contacts, showing address/email/and phone numbers.

"Adminer's" offer of a website is certainly the way to go.

There is a FM radio station in Port Pirie which could be approached  (Traxs FM 105.1),which I listen to and I hear quite a few people requesting songs from Jamestown.

I think you are right Dykey, but I am trying to stay  on the outside of this at the moment, as I am getting somewhat overloaded  with my interests and it's only going to get busier as both Shirl and I have just acquired a new set of responsibilities in the form of out first Grandchild. We will be leaving for Canberra in about a fortnight.

My initial interest in the Reunion was only as a representative of the Local History group, and that's really about all I have time for, at least until later in the year.
