Remember Doctor Verco.

One saturday I injured my leg playing football, so after the game I drove myself up to the Docs.
Doc Verco gave my an injection in the leg and I fainted.
He would not let me drive home, so he drove me home and I had my sister pick up my car later.

He was the last of the "old time" Doctors who still did house calls and evening consultations. He worked alone and everyone was seen to on the day.

Now to get an appointment you often have to ring a week ahead and we have about four doctors

Then they send you to a Specialist Ray and you don't get to see them for another 3 to 4 months, by then you have forgotten what you went for in the first place.

It amazes me how we have such a large population here and the only Doctor you can get at night or on the weekend is the Emergency Dept at the Hospital and you wait for hours and hours to see one.
Then he is from over sea's, in training and he does not under stand you or you him. What's happening to the country.

You'd think that with these specialists all doing their work, you'd be able to get in to see a doctor in your home town almost immediately.

Years ago you never saw a foreign doctor, and you'd always be seen on the day. Personally I tend to stay away from them, it seems that the more often you go to the doctors the more they seem to find wrong with you.

I totally agree with you, but when you have had cancer and or a heart attack you have to go for regular check ups.
so some of us have no choice. Sad

I'm afraid to say they have made our Hospital into a teaching school, so when you go to the Specialist here you may pay for him....BUT the trainee does the operation (much to our horror) we are being the mice.

What can you do and What can you say. Huh

Yeah, well, try living in the big smoke, and see how long it takes you to see a "Specialist". I've been waiting over 18 months just to see a ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist at Flinders.

And to see my regular, family GP, I have to book 2 weeks in advance. Just hope that you don't get sick all of a sudden.

Back when we lived in Jamestown, we took for granted the medical care, and the housing situation.
Now, we look at the state everything is in here, and how long you must wait for things, and think how lucky we really were up there.

Even being on a waiting list for a hip replacement, you get in quicker when you live in the country areas.

Do you have to book ahead to get crook too? Grin

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.  If our services "improve" much more we'll be living in third world conditions.

Ha!

Oh, yes indeed about the so-called 'improvements'.
Funny how everything that is put in place is to improve things, yet we still seem to be going backwards.

You want to live down here and you will know what it's like to live in a complete medical mess, our system at present is unbelievable.
We have a Hospital full of Trainee Students and they do the op's and we pay the Specialist, beat that one.
When things go wrong you have no Clinics open at night or at weekends only the Emergency Ward at the Hospital and yes Students,
 Who can not talk ENGLISH.

Where is 'down here'?

Believe me when I say we have experienced some of the worst of the worst with hospitals etc.
Husband was stuck in emergency at Flinders with an almost amputated finger last year.... lay there for nigh on 12 hours before he was operated on.
And he was lucky to get a bed.

I think the state of the medical situation here in Australia is disgusting, compared to what it used to be like, and how other countries perceive us to be. We are meant to have a world standard in health. I think that is laughable.

Here is Mt Gambier and yes we have those kind of problems here.

My husband had a small op on his face to remove a cancer and that night he started bleeding profusely, I rushed him to Hospital and we sat for 2 hours before a nurse even came. Then an hour later taken into a room were we sat for another 2 hours before a Doctor came,  he had no idea what to do to stop the bleeding and went off  for ages and returned with a book, the words that came out of his mouth was I don't know how to stop it.
AT 3 in the morning he decided to GLUE a pad to his face and bandage his whole head and we left the Hospital at 4.30 next morning and was told to see a Doctor as soon as possible. HELLO what was he?
When we walked into the surgery next morning after sitting with blood still gushing from his head the rest of the night, the Sisters couldn't stop laughing and the Doc was shocked. They took over an hour to get everything off his face.
WE have no Clinics open here at nigh or on the weekends.
YES I think we all have the same or similar problem, scares you a bit when you think about who's hands you are in when you are in ill health
