Well last Friday we received a phone call to say the Cinema lease would not be renewed and we would then have to close as of June 2013
I know to many of you this seems a while away but if we do not begin the fight now we will lose the battle. This is absolutely disgusting as i only went to a job interview there 2 weeks ago and they willing to put me on for some shifts. Such a let down. At moment children are flooding the cinema (myself and my kids included) and its going to be so sad when they close and the kids are affected. Rann government has just been a blunder .no idea. funny that he mentioned in twitter that whyalla is bigger than mt gambier. i wonder if any rann government family work in whyalla at the country arts. i certainly hope snelling visits port augusta to explain himself to residents and also should go to port schools and tell them what he is doing and that he doesnt care for children and there entertainment. id hate to be a woman or child under this government. i went for 4 job interviews at port only to be told i cant get the job coz im white. wheres the equality. also id like to know when jack snelling asked the port residents if they want the cinema closed.  oh thats right rann government. smart move , close the best mid north 3d cinema. mike rann and jack snelling, worry about matters that matter in the crossroads of australia. like the jail. what has government done positive (for all colours not just aboriginals) in port augusta. there should be road block protest going in and out of port augusta till they leave OUR cinema alone.

Mr Jack Snelling MP in his wisdom has decided that the lease on the TAFE theatre not be renewed thus forcing our closure in June 2013
WHY well we have not been told
BUT it seems that it is OK for Country Arts a government dept to continue to lease the TAFE theatre in Whyalla but not so in Port Augusta because we are a private business!!
Once again we are considered to be on the not necessary list!! We are both devestated by this news not so much for ourselves but for the community of Port Augusta and surrounding areas, OUR FRIENDS as we like to call you all!!!

So I urge you please to email Mr Snelling and jam his emails with your objections!

ATTENTION MR JACK SNELLING
Residents of Port Augusta and surrounding areas are tired of being forgotten and downtrodden by the RANN government!!!
Listen to the people and make decisions appropriately thats why we voted you into government not to have you turn your backs on us and take away one of the few things we have left for our community!!
PERHAPS YOU MAY CHECK OUT THE FACE BOOK GROUP
SAVE Cinema Augusta!!

It appears that the arts generally are taking a big cut back in funding all around the state, I don't know a lot about it though, as It's not a great interest of mine personally.

From what I see, this trend is only going to get worse.  It's really a matter of those who are affected having to find new ways of attracting patrons and raising their own money, this seems to be the way with most interest groups especially in the country.

If the lease is not being renewed, I'd start by approaching the body who control it and finding out why they feel the lease should not be renewed.

700 likes on save cinema augusta on fb and hundreds of emails and that was just the first hour. and not just port residents but the whole midnorth is outraged that they takin away entertainment when its gov job to provide us wit it. If an aboriginal owned the lease, trust me it would be renewed straightaway. so the fight is underway wit hundreds and mayb 1000's tryin to keep this great place open. its the only 3d cinema in the midnorth. its been bustlin all holidays wit the kids.

Do these people who like the cinema on Facebook actually suppport it by using it? Have you been able to determine exactly who is the fly in the ointment?  Who does actually own it and what is the reason they give for  the lease not being renewed?

It just seems odd to me that someone would close something that has any hope of success, these people are usually business people and they will never walk past a worthwhile opportunity.  But if it's costing them money, well,... they will drop it like a hot potato, and you can't really blame them for that, no one that I know, can afford to throw money away and that's pretty much what it always boils down to.
