Another new business opened on the Industrial Estate on June 20th.

Jamestown Fodder in the Big Red Shed  on the corner of Wenham and McLeod Road.

A great range of animal feed........worth a look.

Thanks for that Tamren, I had heard that it was going to open, but I was unaware of the date.

TLW will be pleased if they stock bird seed, the last lot we bought here was full of husks and rubbish, it wasnt much better than floor sweepings. She had been forced to go to Osbourne's in Pirie since then.

That is in Irvine street, immediately behind the old Belalie Hotel and next to the Dept. of Primary Industries.

It has been empty for more than 30 years, before which it had the old stable for the hotel on it. I always thought that it belonged to the hotel.

I dunno how it happened,...  but while I wasn't looking, a large Red Shed was erected out on the corner of McLeod Rd and Wenham Rd. at the Industrial estate.

I was slightly gobsmacked at the extent of my own inattention,... I guess I'll have to put it down to old age. Tongue

Here we see Emma Sangster at the front counter of their new family business, Jamestown Fodder, as can be seen, they keep a wide range of stock and are willing to order in any special requests.
Mix your own blend" poultry and bird seed will be available as soon as  a certified scale for weighing out the products can be sourced.

Emma will be known to some of our farming community, as she previously worked at Wardle's. It was when they stopped selling feed and fodder that she thought there was a place for a dedicated fodder store in Jamestown.

I'm sure we all wish her well.

After nearly 40 years Leesong Electrical have moved premises to the old Elder's building which for the last several years has been occupied by Suzlon.

The shop opened for business in Irvine Street on Monday, although there is still a lot of stock and spares to be moved into the new premises.

Nice to see all these new/old businesses moving around, expanding, popping up, its good Smiley

The empty memorial place and the old foodland  is going to get known as Eysore Corner at this rate though ...

I don't think you would find a single person who would argue with you about that.

I am a great believer in preserving our history, but this building is pretty much unwanted and unloved in it's present form and condition. Both it, and the old Black and White ruins need to be bulldozed and the land made available for new development.

The fact that the old Foodland site is listed as a building of Historic or Architectural significance is a real bugbear.  I've also been told that it needs a new roof and a lot of the floor needs a lot of work.
As it is, no one can alter it, and no one is willing to puchase it in it's present form, especially with the restrictions in place regarding the structure of the building. Essentially that means that it is just going to sit there unoccupied, and gradually decay to the point where it will become a safety hazard. Then it will have to be knocked down anyway. Huh

It interesting that you mention the Historic or Architectural status of the old Foodland building because I was recently told by another person, that in spite of the rumours about the building's status, he could find no official advice about the building.

Perhaps we should do some extensive checking to confirm one way or the other?

Hmmm,... that might be a story well worth following up.

I don't know where I first heard it, but it always seemed that there were others who seemed to be under the same misapprehension (if it is).  I can think of several possible reasons why such a story might be bandied about, but I won't go into them until I am a little more certain of my "facts" Roll Eyes

I'm sure that a clear site of that size, either offered as the original three blocks or combined would be of far greater interest to persons wishing to start a new business or move into new premises. It has excellent position (possibly the best in the street) and would allow for plenty of flexibility.
