"I'm Bored"

« on: 06 April, 2011, 02:55:20 PM »

With the kind permission of the editor of our local newspaper (The Journal) I would like to place this short story on the internet. Hopefully it may find it's way back to the originator.

When the council workers were cleaning up the leftovers from our previous foot bridge, they found a small capsule containing a note and two Japanese coins. The note was written in Japanese, but it has since been translated, and reads as follows.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dec. 1995
For a memory of visiting Taka
(A Male name)
I came to this city as well.
Dear Madoka
(A Female name)
I am still in love with you
I buried this on 24th Dec 1995 at night.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I find this note of seemingly unrequited love somewhat poignant, and feel that it should be known that it is still in safe hands, having been re-buried in the enlarged footings of our new bridge.
Correction: It is still in the hands of the District Council and is going to be mounted and framed so that it may be displayed at the Council Chambers

I wonder where "our Taka and Madoka" are today?.....

After putting up the previous post I was talking about it to TLW, and she immediately said that we had a Japanese exchange student here in 1990 by the name of "Madoka  Ozumi" and was wondering if it may be the same person.

It might pay me to make enquiries as to whether we had a "Taka" here in 1995.

Yeah, I must admit that it made me feel a bit the same way.
