In the last 4 weeks, a stray dog has been mauling pet cats in Jamestown, killing 2, and maiming the other 2 that badly, that the Vet has recommended & performed euthanasia.
Naturally the owners of these pet cats are very upset about their losses.
There has been only one fleeting sighting of this dog last night & it has been described as a light colour about the size of a sheep dog.
If anyone knows of this dog being at large at night, when all 4 of the attacks have occurred, please let the Northern Areas Council know about it, before a small child is maimed or killed.
This request is not about seeking revenge, but about being responsibly community minded.

I was informed yesterday that a neighbours cat was chased within their yard by a dog of similar size and colour, also accompanied by a smaller Jack Russell style of dog.  When confronted, the larger dog did not take off, but stood it's ground, which is not a good sign in my opinion.

Not all that many years ago, I could have solved this problem myself.   Pity,....

If this incident happened at night time (when all of the killings took place at our end of Jamestown), the plot thickens, because in what I thought was an unrelated cat killing, a terrier sized dog was detained by a lady, as the suspected killer of her cat, but it escaped before the Council came to collect it.
So ..... keep an eye out for a light coloured medium sized dog, travelling in the company of a terrier sized dog at night, because they are possibly the offenders in these heart breaking killings.

On Friday night I sighted a small, but solid, tan coloured Staffy dog, or Staffy cross, travelling in the company of a small Jack Russell terrier looking dog, near Belalie Lodge.
They were quite elusive when I tried to follow them in my car.
I suspect that these are the dogs that were seen chasing a pet cat up by the old sawmill recently.
Based on the description of the dog seen at the last cat mauling near Gloucester road, I am suspicious that these may be the culprits in the multiple pet cat deaths that have taken place recently.
Keep an eye out for these dogs.

Thank you Tricky.

When I go for my occasional tours around the town with my camera I will certainly keep my eyes open for this couple.

THALFANKS RALFAY!!

Although, as we all know, suspicion is not an acceptable proof of guilt.
Sadly without a positive ID, or hard evidence, it will be a very difficult task see the offender(s) brought to justice.

PS. My Opening comments got past the spell checker because they are capitalised!!

If I am so lucky as to get a photo, at least we may have something to show to others who have seen the offenders so as to make a comparison. Someone may even know whose dogs they are and the owners can be made aware that they are wandering at large around the town.
