Just something of interest for us semi-greenies. In 1999 a bore was put down in proximity of my residence within Jamestown, the depth was 68 feet, and at the time the salinity reading was approx. 4200 ppm, and the water level from the ground surface was 11 feet.

During the declared drought years and water restrictions (around 2008 etc), the the water level dropped to 21 feet, and the salinity was 4800 ppm.

A reading was done on the bore approx 3 weeks ago by the owner, and the water level is back to 15 feet, but the salinity level remains at approx 4800 ppm.

Interestingly the Belalie Creek has a reading of 5200 ppm.

It will now be interesting to see how the owners garden performs, as they have just installed a carefree water conditioner, similar to the one advertised on TV, but about a 1/3 of the price.

That is very interesting.

I don't know what the exact story is at our end of the town, but about 15 or more years ago several test bores were put down to sample the water in and around the old saw mill. Apparently this was to monitor chemicals that had leached into the soil from the old CCA pine treatment plant that operated there for many years.   I have never heard what the result was from these tests, but as far as I know they are still being done, as I have seen a bloke there running some sort of test equipment.

It might be interesting to find out, If I think of it next week I might call in at the NAC office to see what they know.
