"I'm Bored"

« on: 02 June, 2010, 06:03:55 PM »

Righto you lot,.. lets get our minds back on the job!!...... Grin

I had a question answered for me this week that I have never been willing to try.    USB memory sticks are now being found everywhere and being as small as they are I had always wondered, "What happens if you accidentally leave one in a pocket and throw it in the wash"Huh

Now TLW is usually very fastidious in this department and carefully goes through my pockets to remove the things that tinkerers tend to accumulate, odd washers, Allan keys, nuts and screws, you name it,.... No, not money, like most husbands, I am forbidden to have money, matches or play with sharp  knives.  It appears that all this care is necessary because, other than making strange noises in the washing machine, these things also scratch the bowl of the machine.

Well, last wash day, TLW missed the fact that I had inadvertently left one of my Memory sticks in a top pocket and it went through the wash, doing the whole cycle, as it stayed in the buttoned up pocket and never made any noise, so it got the whole deal, pre-wash, soak (Yes, I'm a grubby bugger) Heavy wash and rinse.  No doubt, if it were not for the lump in my pocket it would have got ironed too.

Yesterday, I was sitting at the computer, (where else?) when TLW appears at the door with a very hang dog look on her face and the offending memory stick in her hand, saying, "I think I might have damaged it".  It was dry on the outside, but a shake got another couple of drops of water out of it, and I said "Well, we'll see".

I gave it another vigorous shaking and took it and put on the warm brickwork alongside the oil heater, where it has sat for the last 24 hours or so. About 20 minutes ago I tried it out,....  No worries, Jack, she's as good as new,...  and somewhat cleaner Roll Eyes.

So if you do the same, don't despair.   Only a couple of words of warning, Don't plug it in if there is any chance that it still has moisture inside of it, and if it has fallen into salt or dirty water, give it a really good rinse in clean fresh water before drying it.

Geez, TLW is very thourough... hubby has specific instructions that HE is responsible for ANYTHING left in his pockets!

If it's still in there when I put it in the washer, it's his bad luck!

I've had a mobile phone gone through the wash. Worked perfectly. Dunno how that happened.  Undecided

And many a time our dear old dog's Squeaky toys were thrown in the washer, only to come out sparkling clean, and their squeak still squeaked!

Worse thing to go through, was a scrunched up tissue. THAT was my fault this time...and of course, Hubby sure did let me know all about it.  Grin

No, it was one that I rarely use as it is only 128Mb in size. I had it in my pocket as I had been to do some maintenance for one of my  "older" friends and knew that their computer had the drivers loaded for it.

That was always a nasty trick other would play on people who left their washing in the machines aboard ships, while others waited to use them. Throw half a dozen tissues in and give it another cycle, you could always spot the culprits as their clothes looked like they needed shearing. The other method was to throw a good dose of soap in the machine and then throw the clothes in the dryer, it resulted in some very uncomfortable "dhobi" rashes in very painful places. Grin

Could have been worse.

Yeah,... TLW pointed it out to me on the news, Absolutely unbelievable that the cat could survive that amount of time in a loaded washing machine.
