I have held off commenting on this as the last manager only stuck it out for a few weeks and disapeared again, after what seemed a slow but not unexpected re entry into the pub circuit.
About a month ago the management was taken over by Bill Swearse and his wife, Bill is still managing a Hotel in Aberdeen (Burra) while his wife has come up here to get the old Belalie off the ground. The first thing everyone noticed was that the hotel has been re named as "The Magpie and Globe", I am not certain why, but i was told that this had to be done as the previous owner/manager or whatever had registered the Business name "Belalie Hotel" in his own name, thus necessitating the name change. If anyone knows differently please let us know.
As yet TLW and I have not had a chance to go for a meal, but all reports are that the meals are good, and we will make it our business to go and try them out.

Yeah this is great news - I've always had a soft spot for this old pub (maybe because my wedding reception was held there back in the '70's). There is more discussion about the name Magpie & Globe in this thread:
