Today whilst returning from the Post Office just after midday, I found the Channel 7 "Discover SA" Team, parked under the trees alongside the Lion's Park, on the Belalie Creek. They are were the area to interview the Chris Bretag and family at "Glenrest Stud", and decided to take some background footage of Jamestown before having Lunch at the Restaurant and moving on. I was indeed fortunate to catch them. So,... it looks like we might all have a local story to look forward to at some time in the not too far distant future. Seen above: Chris Dittmar, (Host) Jamie Holland, (Cameraman) and Traci Ayris. (Producer)

Cool! Did they give you any idea when the show might be on?

Nah, Sorry,... they were running behind schedule, and were off to get their lunch, so I never had a lot of time to ask. We watch virtually every show, they will announce it at the closing of the show prior, and I will let you know.

Hey Ray, saw the end of "Discover" tonight, and it looks like the show will be on next Saturday. Said it was some new 4WD track "near" Jamestown...am gathering that would be on Chris Bretags farm. So... better set ya video recorders, or watch the show.

Yea I missed it too! There is a bit on the website at http://discover7.com.au/region.php?regionID=7. I was hoping you'd be able to watch the segment on the web. Not so unfortunately

Tsk,tsk.... and I thought I gave y'all fair warning too.
I was suprised at how Chris Bretag has his shop front where Rhynies hardware used to be....geez, so much change. So where is Rhynies now?
Anyway... the Discover story was real good. Hopefully give Chris some more business.

It is that Richard. A return to some of the habits of 50 years ago when most farmers and family had small sidelines.
In the family of one of my close mates, his mother and sister had the Cream from the farm's four or five milking cows plus turkeys and geese, and the boys raised poddy calves with the skim milk after having saved a billy of full cream milk for the fridge in the house.
I know that several times a year long before the cheap and easy availability of Chicken, my father and I would drive six or seven miles out to Jim Klingners to pick up a turkey or a couple of chooks. No one sold chickens back then, they were just chooks and often old hens who had out lived their laying days, sold as "Boilers".
Dad always liked Jim's poultry as he said it was really well presented, (no pin feathers etc) He grew up as the son of a Wholesale Poultry and Rabbit Merchant so I guess he knew what he was looking at.
