Thank you for that information, he was always a very kind person and as I recall a very chirpy and handsome one. What a shame he had this illness
That would be right, how many poor Innocent young Jamestown youth did you corrupt with your misdoings  Grin Grin
That Innocent cute face of yours was a cover up for the little terror that was hidden beneath.  Roll Eyes
Yes I can recall his Dad working there, but still can not place then in that address. Obviously I never took any notice.

thank you for that info
I think I will have to talk to someone at Naracoorte, I'm kinda thinking that you may have had some rellies at Jamestown in the Early days and these larrakins may have been connected to you.  Shocked

Neil Thompson (or BUB Thompson as he was called) lived on the corner across the road from us in Collins Street, in the the house that Jock & Eva Fleming owned in later years.
Neil, Deane & I used to muck around & try to get into trouble as young blokes. Only with small degrees of success!!
At that time Neil had an illness that affected the use of his legs, but it did not prevent him from doing pretty much the same stuff that us kids did, even though he had a very gangly gait that was exaggerated by the fact that he was quite tall.
I believe that Neill became wheelchair bound due to his illness becoming worse & recall that he passed away quite a few years ago.
I am fairly sure that his father was the manager of Dalgetys during the time we were friends.

I have just found that I have supplied incorrect information about Neil Thompson's Dad.
Keith Thompson was the manager of Bennet Farmers & NOT Dalgetys as I have suggested above.
Sorry about the false information everybody!!!! Huh

Thanks for that tricky.

It was a bit closer than my initial info anyway.  I only have a few memories of Neil, or "Bub" as you reminded me, then the family moved away.

I guess that it is a sign of growing older that I seem to get such satisfaction from these old memories, especially those I have not thought about for many, many years.

Do you know if he went to school here, as he had left High School by the time we went there?

In later years Bennett Farmers became Dalgety Bennett Farmers, so I guess my aging brain suffered severe Disassociation With The Decade Syndrome, otherwise known in the aged forgetfulness business as DWTDS!!! Cheesy
This DWTDS caused me to link the wrong decade with Keith Thompson.
I will try harder next time!!

Yes Neil attended the Jamestown Primary School, I don't know how long for but I always recall him in the grades ahead of me even though we were in the same class room.
His best buddy was Eddy Hunter.
I stand corrected on this but I don't remember Neil going to high school.

I do remember the name, but it's a long time ago, and I think that he must have left Jamestown before I returned to live here full time (1975).

From your description Geoff he sounds like he was certainly one of the town's characters. I was only saying to "Granny" about 12 monts ago, "We don't seem to have any real characters in the town these days, it seems like everything has got too "serious" for people like that to be around.  One of the last real charcters that I remember would have been "Sugar" whom anyone would know who has lived in Jamestown in the last 50 years or so.

There were blokes like the Russell boys, Jack and "Cody" (William Alfred), Freddy "Rowdy" Hockey, and of course my Mum made a bit of a name for herself in latter years. It's a great pity in many ways, as these persons always kept us on the lookout, and they never seemed to harm anyone but perhaps themselves. Many of them were very interesting people in their own right, and they certainly added some colour to the town.

Neil Thompson.

I played colts football with him.
It was problems with the legs, later on.

I can remember, at one stage he use to get around on a three wheeled push bike (mens size). I presume somone converted the bike for him.
